In August 2001, the Clyde, New York Gas Turbine Fuel System Division (GTFSD) of Parker Hannifin was selected to receive the Lean Manufacturing Excellence Award for Overall Implementation. This honor is awarded by FlowCycle, Inc in Dallas. The award will actually be celebrated in October.
The "Clyde, New
York division assembles fuel nozzles, valves and
injection systems for gas turbine aircraft
engines that can help define requirements for
proper fuel flow, atomization, and placement to
ensure optimum combustion performance" (Market
News Publishing, 2001, p. 1008274u5816). The
original objectives of the company were to
"redesign a line to increase output from 50
units per week to 200, reduce work-in-progress
(WIP) by 50% in six months, implement a
Kanban/Pull system in 12 weeks and called for a
50% reduction in cycle time within six months"
