The Business Process Management Guide
When we are speaking of business process management we are discussing such techniques and processes as business optimization, lean enterprise and business process improvements, Six Sigma, quality, cost cutting TQM, business reengineering, and others.
Within our new
economy and the digital age these processes are
the tools that are used by organizations to help
make sense of the planning, practice, and
conducting of business these days. They focus on
improving the dynamic events that are part of
all these steps.
These techniques are about improving results
through the objective analyzing and improvement
of the processes of doing business. Rather than
relying on speculation, past knowledge or even
intuition, these techniques objectively study,
measure, adapt, refine, sustain, and improve
business practices. It allows a company the
freedom to achieve the highest standards and
purpose.
These techniques examine each element of the
business, including manufacturing, budgeting,
capital expenditures, operations and
administrative functions, to ensure that the
entire company is operating as a unified front
toward improvements and higher standards. In
order to determine the success of these efforts
metrics, measurement tools, assessments,
performance statistics, and diagnostics are
used.
At its most basic level business process
management is a philosophy used to structure
each process of the company towards a successful
outcome. The goals of these programs are to
minimize waste, improve efficiency, and create
new standards for excellence within the
organization. This should enable the company to
reap a new level of profitability, as well as a
new reputation for being a world class business.
Often we see business process management as a
way to optimize all the various operational
activities within an organization, making any
changes that are needed for improvement. There
are several different philosophical techniques
that fall under the umbrella of business process
management, all of them geared toward process
design, execution, and monitoring of the
results. They all look toward the future success
of the organization, examining the business
workflow and human driven processes.
