Quality Through Lean Manufacturing
Many people believe that quality products are expensive. Most are even willing to pay more for a product known to be of a higher quality, which is almost always seen as a wise move.
It is always a
good idea to have the highest quality product
available. But there is one problem with the
assumption that you will need to pay more to get
quality. Why should quality cost more? You may
not need to spend the extra money to get the
quality that you deserve.
When it comes to manufacturers you have two main
types: quality and average. Quality
manufacturers, as their name implies, make high
quality products. Lean manufacturers are by
nature quality manufacturers. Average
manufacturers produce products with only average
quality. They pick from among the items that
they produce and sell only the highest quality
pieces, at an increased price. While they are
selling quality products they are not quality
manufacturers.
When you purchase products from a quality
manufacturer you only need to pay for the
products you are purchasing, not all the
products they had to toss that did not meet
quality standards. Average manufacturers need to
pass on the costs for their low quality rejects
onto the consumer, so you are in a sense paying
for several products you did not purchase. There
costs include the price for both the low quality
products they throw away and the high quality
products you purchase. When you purchase
products from a high quality manufacturer using
lean manufacturing you will not need to pay
more, as they do not produce low quality
products that need to be tossed.
