Joseph Day, who is chairman and CEO of Freudenberg-NOK Inc. in Plymouth, reported that since the company initiated lean manufacturing in 1993, they have shaved more than $101 million from its cost structure.
Every plant in the corporation has had ongoing examinations by teams to be sure that they are still using the most efficient processes possible. These ongoing examinations have resulted in having more than 300,000 square feet of manufacturing space opened (Strong, 2001, p. 11).
